SPENCER — The North Carolina Transportation Museum is adjusting to layoffs and another cut in state funding.

After $1.2 million in funding was cut in half last year, funding this year is now down to $300,000. The museum eliminated two unfilled positions this month along with one carpenter position.

Admission increased from $5 to $6 as well. Museum officials say regular attendance has decreased, but they have seen record attendance for big exhibits.

"We're still offering a value that's worthy of the admission price that we're asking and it's still a very affordable price. So we saw July this year do better than last year, we had admission both times. So we're going to hopefully continue to see that grow and continue on," said museum spokesperson Mark Brown.

Museum admission was free until July of last year. The museums next major exhibit rolls in late September with Thomas the Tank Engine.
