CHARLOTTE -- The FBI says a Charlotte-bound flight diverted to Maine because of a security concern was never in danger. Passengers on US Airways flight 787 arrived in Charlotte Tuesday evening three hours late -- with relatives waiting anxiously.

"We're just thankful that they landed and that they handled it so professionally," said Karen Dagher, who was waiting on her mother-in-law.

Passengers say hours into the flight from Paris a woman, described as a black, French-speaking and in her mid-20s, began pacing the aisles and acting strange. At one point, she reportedly said something about a device surgically implanted inside her. Eventually, the crew took the woman to the back of the plane.

"There was no screaming, yelling, no hands up," said passenger William Milam.

Two F-15 fighter jets escorted the Boeing 767 plane to Bangor, Maine where it made an unscheduled landing. At the time, the pilot said the flight needed more fuel.

"We were pretty much unaware of what was going on," said Milam.

In Bangor, police removed the woman from the plane and checked everyone else.

"They escorted us out of the airplane into buses,” said passenger Jack Stevens. “And then they re-searched the airplane."

After the three hour delay, and after authorities determined there was no threat to the plane or its passengers, flight 787 continued its journey to Charlotte.

Relatives said the hold-up was worth it to have their loved ones show up safe.

"We're just thrilled to have her here and not have anything happen,” Karen Dagher said. “But boy did it give me a scare.”

Nine crew members and 179 passengers were on the plane.
