WARSAW, N.C. — Veterans Day celebrations across the state are getting national recognition this year.
Charlotte, Fayetteville, Morehead City and Warsaw were designated as regional sites for the observance of Veterans Day by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. That means they are model sites for Veterans Day observances. On Saturday, the Town of Warsaw hosted its 90th Veterans Day celebration with a pancake breakfast, street fair, memorial service, parade, and much more.
The Warsaw Chamber of Commerce boasts that it is “The oldest consecutive Veterans Day celebration in America."
“Rain, shine, sleet, or snow, hail, whatever they've been out here every year for 90 years honoring our veterans," said Jim Harris, with the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce.
The NC Division of Veterans Affairs said this is the first time North Carolina has been designated. Only 54 sites across the country received the recognition this year.
