CHARLOTTE — A recent report lists North Carolina as the fourth in the nation for cases of women murdered by men.
So far in 2010, the state has seen 51 domestic related murders. There have been 16 domestic murder-suicides in the state so far this year.
“These relationships are about power and control. In 85-percent of the reported cases, homicide cases, someone is trying to leave the relationship. In most cases, this is the ultimate act of power and control,” said Mike Sexton, with Mecklenburg County CSS Women's Commission.
October is domestic violence awareness month.
