CHARLOTTE — For the second time this week, officers responded to a deadly domestic violence call.

The latest happened early Friday morning at an apartment complex on Wendover Road in southeast Charlotte. When the smoke cleared a man was dead and a woman was injured. It has left domestic violence counselors renewing calls for action.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said a man came back to 630 N. Wendover Road to confront his ex-girlfriend, shot her in the leg, then turned the gun on himself. It is the latest in a string of domestic violence across the Charlotte Metro area. Donovan Grant, with Mecklenburg County's NOVA program, knows the issue first hand. The center sees about 200 clients throughout the year.

"It happens all the time. Statistics tell us in our country ever 6 hours a woman is murdered by her lover or boyfriend," said Grant. "We want to change the behavior of the perpetrator because we believe if we change him then that's going to stop the repeat of violence."

If you or someone you know is an abuser or in an abusive relationship, you can call Community Support Services Women's Commission. That number 704-336-4344.
