ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — Life is back to normal for many businesses and homeowners along the coast.

Hurricane Earl brought rain and high winds to Carteret County, which created an unusual site at Atlantic Beach. Tires washed up throughout the beach which came from an artificial reef driven to shore by the strong waves. Crews spent the morning removing them from the beach.

Homeowners spent the morning getting rid of the boards they put up to protect their homes.

"Far less than what everyone thought but it is always better to be prepared and we were definitely prepared," said homeowner John McCann.

Customers even shopped at the Rite-Aid in Atlantic Beach on Friday morning, showing that it's back to business as usual. Many people who spoke to News 14 Carolina were glad they prepared their property for the storm and they’re glad Earl wasn’t a bigger problem for this holiday weekend.
