GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A 3-year-old dog is being called a hero after she saved her owner from his burning home. A fire broke out in a Gaston County home last Tuesday evening.
Jamaica's owner was asleep at the time after taking some heavy heart medication and removing his hearing aid. The dog apparently jumped up on Darel Arnold's bed, waking him up and alerting him to the fire. Within minutes, the whole house went up in flames.
Both the fire chief and Arnold say the dog saved the man's life.
"I wouldn't be here," said Arnold. "She saved my life."
Arnold and Jamaica made it out of the home without any injuries. The home, however, is a complete loss.
