CHARLOTTE -- Alexandra McArthur, a Davidson college graduate living in Charlotte, was crowned Ms. Wheelchair America last week.

By winning the competition, McArthur, who has muscular dystrophy, will spend the next year traveling across the country advocating for people living with disabilities.

“The Ms. Wheelchair America organization is very gracious in that they say, ‘you know, we want you to do as much as you can,’ and people have different limitations so I am trying to be intentional about what events I’m doing and also be able to make the most of this experience,” McArthur said.

McArthur is now the third North Carolinian to win the title. She says her first large public appearance will happen next weekend in Houston.
