CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte Department of Transportation is warning drivers about congestion and delays due to a railroad project that's expected to last more than two weeks.

Hawthorne Lane will be closed between Central Avenue and Parkwood Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday beginning Thursday and ending Aug. 6.

Crews are shutting down the road to complete some repairs on the CSX Railroad bridge. CSX is in the midst of its summer maintenance program in the area; it did similar work weeks ago on the railroad crossing on Central Avenue.

That project actually took a little longer than expected due to the heat wave.

Until the project is over, motorists can take Central Avenue to The Plaza to Parkwood Avenue as a detour.
