CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte City Council unanimously approved the city's long-term transportation plan Monday. It now heads to the regional planing group MUMPO, which needs to approve it before May in order to meet federal air quality guidelines.

The 2035 plan has some new points, including moving the start of construction on the final leg of I-485 from 2015 to 2011.

About two thirds of road projects in the plan will likely have to be put on hold based on current funding projections. And the revised plan also recognized a drop in transit tax revenues in recent years and called for extending the time frame for rapid transit projects.
