CHARLOTTE – After almost four decades, the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament returned to Charlotte.

Since Thursday, the men's and women's basketball teams have been battling it out to crown a champion. So far, the city of Charlotte has been a big winner.

Chattanooga was supposed to host the tournament this year, but the venue was changed to save money.

"We thought that this would be a great central location for most of our schools to enable for most of our fans to come in a tough economy," Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino said.

Next year the conference will be held in Chattanooga. The decision about where it will be held in 2012 through 2014 will be determined by league athletic directors during their June meeting.
