CHARLOTTE – Some CMS students are doing their part to put jobless adults back to work.
After the McAlpine Elementary students collected more than 1,000 items during a donation drive last November, school leaders wanted them to see one-on-one the fruits of their labor. So, Thursday, the kids toured Goodwill’s Career Development Center where revenue from donations is used to fund things like job training programs and computers.
They also heard from someone who found a job after graduating from the center.
“It takes a nice gesture that they've done and it turns it into a leadership experience that they're never going to forget,” said teacher, Justin Ashley.
Goodwill officials say their job centers served nearly 18,000 people last year. That’s compared to 6,500 in 2007.
