CHARLOTTE – The number of clinically-positive H1N1 flu virus cases in Mecklenburg County is up to 15, with the last confirmed case being a child from the Harris YMCA.
The Centers for Disease Control approved guidelines for H1N1 vaccinations, raising some questions as parents prepare to send children back to school.
Children, health care workers and pregnant women are among some of those listed among the advisory’s priority groups. The health department is urging parents, as children get ready to go back to school, to keep kids away from class if they are showing possible signs of H1N1.
"By the guidelines we have today we would not close schools and we would not send children home but rather would isolate the ill child and we would monitor the health of children that have been exposed,” said Dr. Stephen Keener with the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
Federal officials say they are on track to begin with vaccinations beginning in October.
