WINGATE, N.C. – President Barack Obama’s push for health care reform on the national stage Wednesday night was met with skepticism at some local areas.

In Union County, Americans for Prosperity, a group of citizens against larger, government-run health care, rallied against the administration’s proposals and outlined ideas of their own.

They promised their push against the president’s health care ideas will continue across the state in the coming weeks.

“There are a lot of things we can do to make health care more affordable, to put power and control in the hands of doctors, but letting government bureaucrats decide who’s worthy to live and who is worthy to die is a huge mistake,” protester Dallas Woodhouse said.

The group is flooding the airwaves in North Carolina and nationwide, arguing that the administration’s health care reform is too risky and too costly.

“There’s concern most of the debt will be transferred to state and local government in the future because most large government programs that begin with good intentions end up in very large debt,” Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory said.

In contrast, a democratic group called Organizing for America is organizing phone banks across the state to call and gain support for the president’s plan.
