CHARLOTTE – Getting trade and homeowner permits is now a little bit easier in Mecklenburg County.

Contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners can now go online to get permits to start working. Before, they had to go to the Hal Marshall Center, which sometimes meant standing in long lines.

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement hopes this will help homeowners in the difficult economy.

"Some of those benefits that customers gain now are speed of transaction, a TIP permit can be taken out in two to five minutes and a HIP permit… applying for a deck addition at your house, can be done in between 10-15 minutes,” said Jim Bartl, director of Code Enforcement.

Those interested need to go to www.meckpermit.com and then click on "Get your permit online."
