ROCK HILL, S.C. -- While Gov. Mark Sanford is losing support by the minute, the same cannot be said about his wife, Jenny. South Carolina's first lady is receiving national praise for the way she's handling the situation involving her husband's affair.
“His career is not a concern of mine,” she said. “He's going to have to worry about that. I'm going to worry about my family and the character of my children."
But she's not alone as support for the first lady is growing. The Palmetto Family Council even started the Stand with Jenny campaign.
“She's just been a rock for her children and for her family and her faith,” Dr. Oran Smith, president and CEO of Palmetto Family Council, said.
The group estimates more than 1,000 people signed the petition and many others e-mailed their support.
"We do want her to sense that we stand with her in spirit," said the Rev. Matthew James, pastor at Trinity Bible Church in Rock Hill
Though he doesn’t know Sanford, James signed the petition, saying that he's praying for her and what she's going through.
"While she feels terribly embarrassed and vulnerable, and probably even though she's in the middle of a tremendous frenzy, she probably feels very alone and we want to send her our support in spirit," James said.
Support as she navigates her way through her husband's affair, which played out in newspapers and televisions across the world.
The Palmetto Family Council is a conservative faith-based group that's encouraging the Sanfords to reconcile their marriage.
