Matthews Mayor Lee Myers

MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Mayor Lee Myers is turning in his gavel. The nine-term mayor announced Tuesday morning he will not be seeking re-election.

Currently, Myers is the longest serving active mayor in Mecklenburg County and the small town of Matthews more than doubled in population size in his 18 years in office.

Myers also served on two major transportation committees in the region helping to direct road funds and the construction of Charlotte's light rail line.
