MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. is asking race fans to help give back during the Coca-Cola 600 week. Leading up to the race, Truex wants fans to drop off non-perishable food items at his office in Mooresville.

The foundation for Truex, along with the foundation for fellow driver, Ryan Newman, partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank on the food drive. The goal is to collect as much food as they can to help out their local communities.

"Martin understands that it's very important to give back, and this is a home town for him,” said Michelle Hunt, executive director for the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. “He is, whether people realize it or not, he does see and understand the impact in the community and he does want to make a difference. So, this is kind of our opportunity to do what we can to help."

Both Newman and Truex will have tents set up directly across from Lowe’s Motor Speedway this weekend for fans to drop off canned goods and pet food items.
