CHARLOTTE – More than 750 people walked the course at Quail Hollow Club Tuesday to raise awareness and donate money to two shelters for battered women in the Charlotte area.

11 of the 84 women who died in domestic-related deaths in North Carolina lived in Mecklenburg County.

“It’s a point where we’ve got to do something,” domestic violence survivor Tana Greene said. “It’s got to stop, and awareness, I think, is the majority of the battle.”

The money raised at the walk is being split between a shelter in Charlotte and one in Gaston County.

“It’s just phenomenal,” Cathy Cloninger, of the Gaston County shelter, said. “It’s that we were extremely honored to receive notice that we are a recipient, a beneficiary of these funds.”
