CHARLOTTE – Mecklenburg County's budget director said Tuesday night he doesn't expect any more county cuts will be needed between now and June 30.
County leaders said they don't expect to cut any further based on strong sales tax figures from December and property tax revenues that have been holding steady.
In recent weeks, county leaders shaved tens of millions of dollars in services, affecting the sheriff's office, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, parks and recreation and other county agencies and departments.
"They've made a pretty significant contribution, putting up nearly $30 million in reductions with half the year gone, so it's not something that isn't felt by departments and staff as they're trying to do their jobs," Budget Director Hyong Yi said. "I just wanted to thank them publicly."
As it stands now, county leaders are projecting a more than $75 million shortfall next budget year, which starts July 1.
