Storm evacuees looking for answers
Residents are waiting for the word that they can go back into their homes.
CHARLOTTE -- Residents of the Doral and Cavalier apartments in east Charlotte are still waiting to see when or if they will be allowed back into their homes. They were
evacuated Wednesday morning because of heavy flooding.
"I feel like this is another Katrina. A disaster happens and nobody shows up," said Cavalier resident Jason Wall. "there are people over here that got children, there are people over here that got nothing and we're just on the street with basically nothing."
Evacuated from their homes for more than 24 hours, some were scared to see what was left inside. Others already knew they weren’t going back to much.
"I've seen it, I was allowed in yesterday,” one woman said. “Horrible. Everything is gone."
On top of losing nearly all their possessions, many residents are left with unanswered questions like if they have flood insurance and who they should call. But the answers are hard to come by.

“Nobody knows if we have flood insurance or not because when Doral was over it, we had flood insurance for free,” Wall said. Cavalier hasn’t told us anything about having free flood insurance so people don’t know what to do.
Firefighters say they're doing everything they can to get these people back into their homes so they can figure out what to do next.
"We know we have 100-plus people that are without their home and their possessions but we want to work safely to see if they can get back in to recover the possessions and see where they're going to spend the night," said Capt. Rob Brisley.
Doral apartment managers did give their residents a brief rundown of what's happening but many were still left wondering when they can go back in.
In a letter written to residents, Doral managers said, “We will begin the process of rebuilding as soon as the cleanup and tear out process is complete. We love our residents and we’ll miss you. Good luck to each of you.”
