GREENSBORO, N.C.--Outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn more about kayaking headed to Lake Higgins Saturday, for Greensboro's "Paddlefest."

People tried out more than 60 different types of boats, attended classes and clinics and looked at displays set up by local paddle clubs and water conservation groups.

"We put this on to let people know they can kayak at Lake Higgins normally throughout the year and during paddling season. Also we've got a distributor of boats, get outdoors, where you can get everything you need to come and paddle at the lakes," program coordinator Madeline Carey.

Participants also used the event to give back to the community by doing an early morning clean-up around the lake.
