Jury finds Onslow County man guilty for murdering wife

A jury found a southwest man guilty of killing his wife.

The Jacksonville Daily News reports the jury returned the verdict late Friday.

Howard Lee, 64 was convicted of second degree murder in the death of his wife of 43 years.

Shirley Lee, 63 was found dead in her Onslow County home, with a lacerated liver and broken ribs. Experts told the jury she was beaten to death.

Howard Lee claimed that she stopped taking her medication and that she died in her sleep.

He also told the court he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

Lee received six purple hearts in Vietnam.

He's set to be sentenced Monday morning.
