ALBERSTON, N.C.--Police released new information about the accident that killed a Duplin County teenager.

Highway patrol troopers say charges are pending against the car's driver, 20-year-old Edwin Alvarez.

The Jacksonville Daily News reported Alvarez was driving on Outlaw Bridge Road with friends Friday morning, when troopers say he didn't slow down then pulled out in front of a truck on Highway 111.

One of his passengers, 16-year-old Francisco Zuncin, known as “Chico,” was killed.

The other two passengers, a 13 and a 14-year-old, have minor injuries, as well as the truck's driver, Thomas Thompson.

Alvarez is in the hospital in critical condition, and troopers said they'll change him when he recovers.

There's no word on funeral arrangements for Zuncin.
