CHARLOTTE--Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police welcomed two dozen new recruits to the department on July 27.

A graduation ceremony was held for the 163rd Recruit Class at the department's police training academy.

"We are real excited, we're just ready to get out on the street and continue that learning process and contribute to the already stellar reputation that Charlotte and Mecklenburg County already have," said graduate Coty Brown.

Dr. Ronald l. Carter, President of Johnson C. Smith University, was the guest speaker at the commencement ceremony.
