YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. — Yadkin County authorities have re-arrested a fugitive from Hickory on charges of making weapons of mass destruction and illegal gun sales.
Authorities say they first arrested John Morton, 64, in January after a five-month long investigation. Officials also looked into reports of illegal sales of handguns to convicted felons and illegal immigrants at the Vintage Village Flea Market.
A federal grand jury indicted Morton on federal weapons charges in June and then authorities re-arrested Morton earlier in July after he became a fugitive.
Morton faces charges of selling and distributing firearms without a license, possessing a sawed-off, double-barreled shotgun, and making a weapon of mass destruction.
