SELMA, N.C. – Four people, including a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old, were taken to the hospital after their SUV crashed into a river Tuesday night in Johnston County.

The State Highway Patrol says 43-year-old Ava Contreous hydroplaned before driving off a bridge into the Little River.

DOT crews were forced to shut down the bridge permanently.

The four passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. No names were released.
