WILMINGTON—Bikers of all ages woke up early Saturday morning to participate in the 23rd annual River to Sea bike ride.

Around 200 bikers started the 20 mile journey in downtown Wilmington and ended up in Wrightsville Beach. The free event is put on by the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organizations' BikePed committee in an effort to promote bicycling and safety.

"It's a great opportunity to come out and enjoy the weather and discover a new bicycle route down to the beach, ride with fellow bicyclists, learn the route," said organizer Katie Ryan. "It's great for health and fitness."
