BEAUFORT—North Carolina's maritime history is on display this weekend in Beaufort.

The 38th annual wooden boat show at the Maritime Museum will offer a glimpse at how hand crafted boats used to be built. There will be sailboat races and rides as well as activities for kids where they can make their own boats.

NC Maritime Museum curator Paul Fontenoy said learning about these hand crafted boats connects people to the state's past.

"It's really important that we remind people that this is something that's been part of the state's heritage and the local community's heritage for well over 300 years," said Fontenoy.

The wooden boat show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
