GREENSBORO -- Pinecroft-Sedgefield fire is one of four Guilford County fire departments that could be affected by the City of Greensboro's budget cuts.

"Everybody has dealt with budget cuts whether you are in the fire service or whatever and we've just had to suck it up and deal with it," said Chief Kendall McCarter with the Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire Department

The department employs 32 full-time firefighters and 52 volunteers. It responds to 2,600 calls a year, about 600 of those are for the city of Greensboro. Chief Kendall McCarter said with or without the city's cuts, that won't change.

"We're still going to provide the service that we are supposed to provide because in our department it hasn't gotten that critical," said McCarter.

Some city leaders recommend trimming about $60,000 to help with budget shortfalls but fire officials hope that the city of Greensboro will find another way to cut costs.

Under the proposal Pinecroft-Sedgefield would see $20,000 in city cuts. Colfax, District 13 and McLeansville would also see a reduction in funds.

City leaders said while it's not an ideal situation, they will do whatever it takes to save jobs and continue serving people throughout the county and the city.
