CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. — An order for more plane engines by Southwest airlines to General Electric means more production and jobs for a coastal plant.

A plant leader for General Electric's plant in Castle Hayne said the plant will produce rotating parts for the engines. According to GE, Southwest's request for more engines for their 737 aircraft totals approximately $4.7 billion.

The engines will power the next generation of fuel efficient 737 airplanes for Southwest. So far, General Electric's Castle Hayne plant hired 50 people 2011. Officials plan to add 10 to 20 additional jobs next year.

The company said production on the engine parts could begin in 2013.
