CHARLOTTE -- A local high school student was honored for her work to help homeless youth.

Sarah Headley, a junior at Piedmont High School, was recognized by Aeropostale and dosomething.org for collecting more than 3,000 pairs of jeans, the most collected by any teenager who participated in the national "Teens for Jeans" campaign.

"It's really crazy,” said Headley. “I mean I'm glad that I could help with this and get people involved, but it's not just me. Without everyone donating it would be nothing. And to help out all those people in need is really awesome."

Sarah's honor was part of the school's "Care Week," in which the student body also celebrated raising more than $13,000 for Saint Jude’s Hospital.
