GREENSBORO – A Greensboro woman has rescued nearly two dozen Jack Russell terriers from overcrowded shelters around North and South Carolina.
Now, Robin Manley is looking to find them good homes.
An adoption fair will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 1701 Pleasant Ridge Road in Greensboro.

"Over the last couple of weeks with the weather and the snow, what the shelters found is that people weren't coming out to adopt dogs. People were staying home. But that didn't mean people weren't dropping dogs off at the shelter,” Manley said. “They were getting very overcrowded, so over the last two weeks we've got a lot of calls from as far away as Greenville, S.C., and Wrightville, N.C., to please come and get dogs."
Now the dogs are making themselves at home in Manley's Greensboro backyard. She says the economy has forced many owners to give up dogs that they paid upwards of $1,000 for.
"A lot of people have lost their jobs, lost their houses in this economy and beautiful dogs that have been paid for are finding themselves at a shelter because the owners have no other choice," she said.
To find homes for all the Jack Russells, Manley has put a sign up in her front yard and plans to hold an adoption fair at her home this Saturday.
"These dogs are house trained, leash trained and they know how to sleep in a crate,” she said. “All they need to do is just get some love and some attention."
All of the dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and have up-to-date shots. Many even have their AKC papers.
