GREENSBORO – Some financial experts say they're ready to help people regain control of their finances in 2010. This week, Greensboro residents can get free financial advice through the Your Money Bus tour.
"[Thursday] and Friday, we will have financial advisers who are neutral, so they're obviously not going to be trying to sell you anything. But they're willing to give you 15 minutes of free financial advice for folks who sign up for an appointment, and it's a chance for folks to get 2010 started off on the right foot," North Carolina State Treasurer Janet Cowell said.
The Your Money Bus tour is making stops all around the country. Most recently they were in Raleigh, where more than 85 people got free financial advice.
"Folks did take advantage of it and seemed to be happy with it,” Cowell said. “I think if you get 15 minutes, that would be something like $100 for a professional consultation."
And experts say learning more about managing your own money could help the economy.
"It could help the economy turn around, and certainly if people can save enough for retirement, that's going to help them personally, which in turn helps your community. So there's a lot of good benefits that can come out of good financial education," Dennis Stearns, with Stearns Financial Group, said.
The Your Money Bus tour will be at the Greensboro Library's Hemphill location at 2301 West Vandalia Road Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday, it will be at Bryan YMCA at 501 West Market Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
