WILMINGTON – The mother of a murdered Marine is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the man accused of killing her daughter.
Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach’s mother filed the suit in Onslow County Monday against Cesar Laurean and his wife. Laurean is charged with killing Lauterbach in December 2007 and fleeing to Mexico. Lauterbach was pregnant at the time.
The lawsuit claims Laurean’s wife Christina aided and abetted him while he was on the run. The suit seeks in excess of $10,000.
Last week, a judge ruled the murder trial would be moved out of Onslow County. It’s set for next June and could last one month.
Laurean was arrested in Mexico in April 2008 and extradited to Onslow County in March.
Attorneys say Monday’s filing coincides with the two-year anniversary of the day Lauterbach was reported missing.
