RALEIGH – The Wake County Board of Elections has determined that there is evidence showing former American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken may have voted illegally this fall, but the board does not plan to take any further action.
Board members voted unanimously Wednesday to end the investigation after Aiken wrote a letter asking officials to remove him from their voting rolls.
Wake GOP Chairman Claude Pope filed a complaint against Aiken after records showed he voted in his hometown of Raleigh during the November elections while residing in Chatham County.
Aiken had also criticized local school board candidates, calling them “selfish idiots.”
Pope said after the hearing that he was happy with the outcome.
