RALEIGH – Raleigh police say one is dead following a multiple car accident on I-440 near Glenwood Avenue. Police say a good Samaritan died trying to help after the wreck.

Five cars were involved in a series of wrecks. Police say two people who tried to help jumped over a barrier but fell off the bridge over Crabtree Creek. The bridges between the inner and outer Beltlines are separated by an open space.

Police blocked off a portion of I-440 between Six Forks Road and Glenwood Avenue. They have not released the name of the person who died, and they say a third person did manage to climb over the barrier.

Authorities say the accident happened shortly before 7:00 Friday evening.

The incident is still under investigation.
