Veteran ready for special-made home
Organizer Jim Anderson says the home will be worth at least $200,000. The land, materials and work is being donated by various home building groups.
FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. -- A disabled veteran will soon get a new home in Fuquay-Varina, after losing three of his limbs in a roadside bomb explosion.
Joey Bozik, a former Fort Bragg soldier, lost both legs and an arm in Iraq. He grew up near Wilmington, and is looking forward to coming home. The concept of a home was never really on his mind while growing up.
“When I was younger, I wanted to be all over the place,” he said. “I wanted to pack a bag and move and backpack through wherever, all over the world.”
His Army career took him to Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq – where his injury occurred in 2004. "We spent a year and a half at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. And you go through a lot of different changes during that time,” said Bozik’s wife Jayme. “We spent all of that time in a hotel room."

Now, thanks to a group or veterans who work in real estate construction, the two will soon have a home in Fuquay-Varina – built with Joey’s disabilities in mind. For example, all of the important rooms are going to be on the first floor, and most of the hallways have been eliminated for easy access to those rooms.
Organizer Jim Anderson says the home will be worth at least $200,000. The land, materials and work is being donated by various home building groups. "Outside of children and family, this is the best thing I've done since I've gotten to the Triangle,” said Anderson. “I've been here for 10 years and there's nothing else that means so much as this."
The Boziks are scheduled to move in on October 27. That’s the day Joey was injured in 2004. For more information on Operation Coming Home, click HERE.
