The same juror who postponed the trial on Monday failed to show up to court for the second day in a row. After a meeting with the attorneys, Superior Court Judge Paul Gessner replaced the juror with one of the two alternates.

Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed late Monday night on Durham Lane in north Charlotte. Upon entering the home around 11:30 p.m., police say they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Just a few minutes later, Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.

Union County commissioners heard an earful Monday night from parents upset about a budget plan that would take teacher assistants out of public elementary schools. Parents packed the commission meeting Monday to sound off about the school funding fight. They want commissioners to approve $6.7 million for 350 teacher assistant jobs in county elementary schools.

Another major road project could be coming to Greensboro. City leaders introduced plans that would extend Florida Street Monday night. They said the project could mean new development for the area. Transportation officials said the goal is to provide better mobility for north-south connectivity in East Greensboro.

An aggressive new “Click It or Ticket” campaign is underway across North Carolina. It's an annual two-week campaign to reduce the number of deaths each year blamed on a person not wearing a seat belt. The Highway Patrol held a news conference at Charlotte Motor Speedway Monday to say they will aggressively go after people not wearing seat belts.

The project's been years in the making after residents rejected one proposed site and voted some county commissioners out of office because of the plan. The old jail was built in the 1950s. The state closed it several times when the the mercury soared in the formerly un-air-conditioned facility. There were electrical and plumbing problems and it only had 29 beds.

UNC-Chapel Hill graduates from the African and Afro-American Studies department are reacting to the findings of academic fraud in the program. Earlier this month, the internal investigation found evidence of forged professor's signatures, and unauthorized grade changes in about 50 classes. Graduates are speaking out about the issue as the State Bureau of Investigation investigates the program.

A wanted man is in custody and a mother and her infant daughter are safe following a SWAT situation in east Charlotte. It happened around 10 a.m. Monday after officers received a tip that 28-year-old Jecorey Fraylon was at a home on Kistler Avenue holding his girlfriend and her child against their will.

A Hickory man who has been in prison since 1987 on a rape conviction was released Monday. In April, the North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission reviewed the case of 65-year-old Willie Grimes and decided unanimously Sunday that a panel of judges should review his conviction.

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass new rules at its meeting Monday night, restricting the number of pets people can keep. Pet owners living on less than a half acre could not have more than three dogs and apartment dwellers couldn't have more than two.
