The Wake County School Board has narrowed its list of superintendent candidates down to just three finalists. The announcement came on Tuesday. The finalists are Dana Bedden, Ann Clark, and James Merrill.

Closing arguments are expected to begin Tuesday in the Mario McNeill murder trial. He is accused of raping and killing 5-year-old Shaniya Davis in 2009. A conference between the defense, prosecution and judge was held Monday to decide what charge the judge will give the jury after closing arguments.

People who knew and worked with former State Representative Stephen LaRoque took the stand Tuesday as Federal Prosecutors continued to try to prove he stole money from nonprofit organizations. LaRoque is facing several charges including theft specifically with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a non-profit organization he created.

Charlotte Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith says a report about a possible move of one of the track's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races is false. Smith said Tuesday that no final decision has been made, but with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, the thought of the race leaving the speedway made many nervous.

The North Carolina office that oversees Medicaid says the funding shortfall for the government health insurance program is more than $330 million. Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos said Tuesday the shortfall has grown $85 million above the $248 million projected by Gov. Pat McCrory's administration earlier this month.

License plates featuring the Battleship North Carolina could soon be on the way. Applications for the First in Flight license plates are now being taken. At least 300 people with registered vehicles must apply for the plates in order to move forward with the plate production.

The House Education Committee heard from both sides Tuesday but didn't take a vote on a bill giving $4,200 grants to poorer students. Around 100 student athletes received free cardiac health screenings Monday. The event was all part of the Second Annual Heart of Champions day which was held at Wesleyan Christian Academy. High Point Regional Health and Carolina Cardiology Cornerstone partnered together to provide the screenings which was also sponsored by a grant from the High Point Community Foundation.
