Chance appears in court

RALEIGH -- A man charged with the kidnapping and murder of a Wendell woman made a court appearance Wednesday.

A judge set a court date for September 14th for Antonio Chance. At that time, he will go before the judge to face charges for kidnapping Cynthia Moreland.

Chance, 29, a registered sex offender, went before a magistrate on Tuesday where he was charged with first degree murder.

The District Attorney’s office also said the state will seek the death penalty.

Moreland had been missing since August 22nd when she failed to show up for work at the Progress Energy building in downtown Raleigh. Her body was found behind an abandoned house in Harnett County on Friday.

Officials have not released how she died.

Funeral services for Moreland will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Word of Faith Church. A visitation is scheduled for Friday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mt. Peace Baptist Church in Raleigh.
