LAURINBURG, N.C. -- A ceremony will be held Thursday to dedicate a Scotland County bridge in the name of a highway patrolman killed nearly 80 years ago.
The bridge on the U.S. 74 bypass over U.S. 15/401 will be named the Patrolman A.J. Hedgepeth Bridge. Hedgepeth was killed in October 1931 in a motorcycle crash.
Officials say he was trying to overtake a speeding driver when he lost control of his vehicle.
The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. at Multitudes Church in Laurinburg.
