MOORESVILLE, N.C. – An N.C. State football player from Mooresville is accused of beating up a shuttle bus driver.
Police say 20-year-old Justin Ross Sweezy is charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor larceny. Football coach Tom O'Brien has suspended Sweezy indefinitely.
Police say the victim, the driver of a shuttle for a Mooresville bar, is in his 60s. He says Sweezy stole his tip jar and punched him in the face several times.
The district attorney's office will decide about any other charges.
"The reason why we're looking and the investigation is continuing is because gentleman, at 65 years of age, has some substantial injuries and the most appropriate charges is what we're after," Capt. Frank Falzone, of the Mooresville Police Department, said.
Police say alcohol was a factor in the incident.
