CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. – After biking for four days straight, nine UNC Greensboro students crossed Snows Cutt Bridge and reached their final destination, Carolina Beach.
"One of the things that kept me going is not wanting to let any of the guys that I'm riding with down," said Taylor Fisher, a UNC Greensboro sophomore.
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers started their journey last Sunday and rode 265 miles from Greensboro to the coast.
"I'm not going to lie, this wasn't easy," freshman Lance Walters said. "But I'm just really proud of all the guys. They've stuck it out. They've rode really hard."
The goal of their trip is to raise donations for the Make a Wish Foundation. They hope to collect $14,000, which is enough to grant two wishes.
Freshman Robert Dove said helping the children is what kept him motivated when the ride got rough.
"It was just excruciating, but we all realized that we were doing this for people who were having more problems than we were," Dove said. "So we just kept our heads down and just going, kept pedaling."
Now all smiles with the trip under their belts, the fraternity brothers agreed giving up their spring break to help terminally ill children is a sacrifice worth making.
"It's just great to do," said Fisher. "It's a great feeling to go on spring break and spend a great time with brothers and a great group of guys and just have fun."
So far, Pi Kappa Alpha has raised $7,000, which is only halfway to their goal. They plan to continue collecting donations through the end of the month.
