WILMINGTON – 19-year-old Roderick Powers faces charges after authorities say he sexually assaulted a fellow student at a Columbus County high school. He was charged with second degree rape in an incident involving a girl younger than 16 at Whiteville High School.

They say the incident happened last month but was reported a few weeks later. The victim was waiting to be picked up after school at the time.

Officials released Powers from jail after he posted a $25,000 bond.
