UNCC grads honor slain student
Irina Yarmolenko
CHARLOTTE -- A moment of silence was held Saturday at the UNC Charlotte graduation ceremony to remember slain student Irina Yarmolenko.
The body of the 20-year-old sophomore was found by a woman jet skiing Monday afternoon on the Catawba River.
An autopsy report shows Yarmolenko was suffocated but so far, Mount Holly police do not have any possible motives or suspects.
Yarmolenko's funeral was held Saturday in Chapel Hill. She was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School.
Anyone with information on her death is asked to call the Mount Holly Police Department at (704) 827-4343.
