CHARLOTTE -- A West Mecklenburg High School student died in a car crash Friday on Mount Holly Road.

Police reports say 17-year-old Alicia Davis was in the backseat of a Nissan 300zx. The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jack Smith, Jr. tried to pass a vehicle, lost control, crossed the center line and slammed in to an oncoming truck.

"A lot of people were really shaken about it,” said Monica Cook, a West Mecklenburg junior. “It makes you feel like it could happen to you."

Smith was listed in critical condition Saturday morning. The driver of the truck, 49-year-old David Sutton, is listed in fair condition.
