Police: Suspect used stolen cards to purchase PlayStation, iPods
The suspect is described as a white female in her late teens to early twenties with long, brown hair.
CARY, N.C. -- After exhausting all leads, Cary Police are asking for your help in identifying a female suspect who allegedly stole and used credit cards on February 1, 2008 to purchase high-end electronics. The suspect stole several credit cards from a victim's wallet in a parked vehicle at Bond Park, 801 High House Road, and used the cards the same day at two Cary stores - Best Buy, 237 Crossroads Blvd., and Target, 2021 Walnut St. Shown here in surveillance footage at Target at about 9:30 p.m., the suspect tried to use at least three of the stolen cards before successfully purchasing items with a credit card that was still active.
While at Target, the suspect purchased a Playstation 3, four Playstation 3 games, two IPODs, and a MicroPlush Blanket. The suspect had also purchased several items at Best Buy shortly after 9 p.m., including a computer, four video games and an IPOD Touch.
The suspect is described as a white female in her late teens to early twenties with long, brown hair.
"Anyone with information on the identity of this brazen suspect is asked to contact us immediately," said Major Dave Wulff. "Fortunately, the victim in this case had deactivated many of the credit cards before the suspect could use them. We encourage everyone to be proactive and be prepared to respond if your credit cards are stolen."
Police encourage citizens to follow the following tips:
• Sign your cards as soon as they arrive.
• Keep a record of your account numbers, their expiration dates, and the phone number and address of each company in a secure place.
• If you lose your credit or charge cards or if you realize they've been stolen, immediately call the issuer(s).
• Carry your cards separately from your wallet in a zippered compartment, a business card holder, or another small pouch.
• Report any questionable charges promptly and in writing to the card issuer.
• Do not leave cards or receipts in plain view.
Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes.
