DURHAM -- Monday is Data Privacy Day, a chance to remind residents of North Carolina about personal privacy issues in a high-tech society.

Privacy experts from the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Homeland Security, Intel, and Google will meet at Duke University on Monday to talk about the privacy challenges of the present.

Another part of the day involves educating teens about online privacy threats, and experts have created classroom handouts for teachers.

According to researchers, more than half of teens in the United States have profiles on social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook.

Earlier this month, N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper and 49 other attorneys general announced that MySpace had agreed to take additional steps to better protect children on their site.
