CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Friends, family and long-time fans said a final farewell to Wake Forest Head Basketball Coach Skip Prosser Saturday morning, when he was laid to rest in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Prosser lived in the area for almost 17 years while he was an assistant, and then head coach, at Xavier University before coming to Wake Forest in 2001.
The 56-year old Prosser died July 26 of an apparent heart attack after a noon jog. He is survived by his wife Nancy, two sons, Scott and Mark, his mother Laura Jo and sister Cindy.
Hundreds turned out for visitation and funeral services in Clemmons, N.C., and on the Wake Forest Campus to pay their respects, including some of Prosser’s biggest ACC rivals.
Prosser was laid to rest Saturday.
“You all know Skip, and I knew Skip, and they don’t come any better than him, an outstanding person,” said Georgia Tech Head Basketball Coach Paul Hewitt. “I thought all the speakers really summed him up very well, how friendly a person he was, and how he went out of his way to make everybody feel comfortable. I told somebody the other day that the thing about Skip is, he’s an easy guy to root for. And that’s not an easy thing to say about a competitor.”
Those wishing to send their respects to the Prosser family may make memorials out to the American Cancer Society: Coaches vs. Cancer at 4-A Oak Branch Drive in Greensboro. Or, donations can be made to the Epilepsy Institute of North Carolina at 3726 Vest Mill Road in Winston-Salem.
