CHARLOTTE -- Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm fire that broke out Thursday morning at a north Charlotte apartment complex.

Firefighters responded to the Double Oaks apartments on Horne Drive around 7 a.m. The apartment building had five units, two of them were destroyed. Investigators say the building was vacant and no injuries were reported.

People do live in other buildings in the complex and many of them were forced to evacuate. One neighbor says she smelled gas all day Wednesday and reported it, but the manager said nothing was reported because if it were, the gas company would have been called.

The complex was in the process of being purchased and was set to be leveled sometime in the near future.

Investigators are still trying to determine how vacant building went up in flames.
